Relaxing Beasts

Do animals help you relax?

I'm considering getting a couple of hamsters, gerbils or guinea pigs to have something else that's alive in the house.

I don't want a cat (don't ask) and a dog would take too much time. Goldfish die on me rather rapidly as I can't seem to get the water or the feeding right. So it has to be one of the above. Unless you have a better idea.

What do you think?

I can highly recommend a rabbit. They are entertaining, affectionate and easily house trained. They do moult a lot though.

Hampsters and gerbils and the likes are nocturnal. Even though they are easy to look after (I have one)they will sleep all day. You can always wake them up of course...

And what's wrong with cats?! I have one and I wouldn't be without her...!

Not sure about a rabbit, but it's a good idea.

As for cats, you KNOW what I think of them.

I'd rethink fish, if what you want is relaxing versus interactivity. Perhaps go for a hardier breed of fish.

Definitely think having a pet in the house is a good idea, either way.

It's not just the relaxing part, but also the interactivity that I'm looking for. It also doesn't matter how hardy the fish are, I'm always useless at looking after them.
